For my quarter four benchmark in my Globalization class, we had the opportunity to choose a topic of our choice and present an independent project about it. For this benchmark, I chose to focus on tourism. I chose this topic, because for one I love to travel. I haven’t been anywhere international yet, but I do hope to do lots of traveling when I get older. I also chose this topic, because I believe there’s a big phenomenon with tourism and just traveling in general. Globalization has a major impact on the widespread popularity and the impact it will have on the country or region. Tourism can have a negative and/or positive affect on many first world countries and on developing countries. It can affect a country’s culture, economy, religion and environment. Big, popular cities benefit more from tourism because there are different aspects that are appealing to the general public. The smaller countries, some less popular than others may only boast some attractions, such as beaches or historical sites. Some reasons people travel to different places are for leisure, business, religious reasons, and for recreation. During this benchmark, I took an in-depth look at five different countries and how tourism had/has a negative and/or positive affect on that country. I hope you find this website useful and educational. Enjoy!
