Thailand is a popular international tourist destination. With 5 sites on UNESCO's World Heritage list, they boast many natural tourist attractions, as well as historic attractions. Thailand both suffers and benefits from their tourism industry. Their economy makes a good amount of money from its tourism department, but there are also issues regarding how the money is used. The environment also suffers due to the tourism industry of Thailand. Forests and other pieces of land have been cut down in order to build hotels and other attractions for tourists. Pollution is an issue, and sex tourism (prostitution) is a major issue in Thailand. Although Thailand has a good amount of positive affects of tourism, they also have some negative affects. If the government and the leaders of the tourism department can come to a consensus regarding how to both enhance their economy and culture and still maintain a safe and unspoiled environment, tourism in their country will continue to prosper.
